Not Just a Brown Hand, Apparently

The hand in question was part of a graphic announcing our latest initiative, the “Add to Slack” button. I decided to make the hand in a promotional graphic look like my hand: brown.

What happened next was both expected and unexpected. Expected, in that some people noticed. Unexpected, in the depth and breadth of the response.

This is a story about representation, about the small choices designers make every day, and about what happens when those choices reflect a broader truth about who we are and who we’re building for.
